Personal Statement
It is my dream and ambition to
have my name in the credits of a successful movie on the big screen that I have
written or directed in. This is the reason why I have chosen to apply be on
your course…
I am intrigued by film with how
they make such movies as ‘The Worlds End’ and ‘Cat in the Hat’, for instance
pre – production and how they create scripts.
I am motivated with every task
given to me and dedicated to making and finishing tasks which are assigned to
me. I have previous experience with a camera and the whole film process,
because of the course I am studying. I am studying film in college but its
combined within in the course Media. This means that I have developed lots of
skills in the film development process like setting up a camera, filming on a
camera and editing on a professional software which is Premier Pro. This helps
because I have already made a few short movies already which I have directed,
written, filmed, and edited.
The skills I have gathered in my
experience are as follows: easily adaptable, high level of confidence, great
listener, commanding, visionary, passionate, very communicative,
independent, focused and relatable. For example, for being easily adaptable, I
had to be a sound mixer for a certain production, but I had never used audio
before and only used a shotgun mic at the time, I had a quick 5-minute tutorial
then I completed the activity effectively. This was the same with setting up a
camera and using lighting. The next example is my vision, passion, and
confidence for a project and how without it no production would be done. When I start a project, I immediately imagine what
it will look like the I can pinpoint where, when, who and what equipment I
need. For my confidence, I can’t take a leadership role if needs be like being
a director or the writer so people know what they’re doing and they won’t have
to worry. This shows how passionate I am with the project. The achievement I
have gathered are star awards. I got this for being the most improved student
in sports where I showed my commitment and hard work.
My hobbies are very similar to the
production and pre-production of the course I am applying for right now. One of
my hobbies is that I love writing my own scripts and stories, this is because I
am a very creative person, where if I have an idea for something, I will
immediately create a story out of it. Also, I enjoy making films and I am
already a content creator, so I make my own videos by filming them, get the
audio just right, edit it on my own software and upload onto YouTube.
The previous work experience I
have had has been in Middlesbrough College where I have volunteered to be
working on a short horror movie called ‘The Loop’. This was during October half
term, so the college was empty, and I was the sound mixer through the whole
production. This work experience taught me how to record sound and I learnt
quickly. This was the first time I wasn't in a group project, and we didn't
need to do it for the course, but I wanted the experience. With what an actual
movie set feels like.
My plan after completing the
course is to work within film production, and it doesn’t have to be big like
they need a runner or cater on a film set. This would get me higher in the
industry and in time trying to apply and getting those jobs I will soon be able
to do my dream job which is to be a director or writing my own scripts. These
jobs would be achieved by standing out so people can notice my talents and they
might bring me on board as their assistant. Also, after completing this course,
I will be able to do other jobs to get up the metaphorical ladder like camera
operator and sound mixer because I have already been taught how to use them.
In conclusion this course will
benefit my future significantly and it will be a missed opportunity to not
teach a committed, dedicated and hardworking student.
